October 1-2 is the California QSO Party (CQP) weekend and many SCV hams
will be active.  Sponsored by the NCCC, you can see the rules at

California counties: Monterey, San Benito, San Mateo, Santa Clara,

Paul N6PSE, co-leader of the Intrepid DX Group DXpedition ST0R to South
Sudan was interviewed by the radio program "On the Media" which was

Tom K1TW is stepping down as an SCV Assistant Section Manager as he is
returning to New England at the end of September.  For the past five
years, Tom has really enjoyed the energy and friendliness of the hams
and clubs in the SCV section. Tom expects to be a frequent visitor to
SCV and looks forward to maintaining ties to the clubs and hams in the

October 8th is the final Flea Market at De Anza College in Cupertino of
the season.  Last month's flea market on September 10th was cancelled
due to construction in the parking lot.  More details at

The Pacific Division Convention (Pacificon) is just around the corner
and will be held this year in the Santa Clara Valley section from
October 14-16 at the Marriott Hotel in Santa Clara, CA. Go to the

Be sure to attend the open SCV Section Meeting scheduled for Saturday
morning 10am in the Monterey Room. Check the Pacificon website for more
details. This is your chance to speak with us directly about section
issues, ask questions and best of all learn more about the ARRL in your
local area. Don't miss it.

At 11am, we will feature a presentation by Larry Carr, KE6AGJ, SEC SCV
& DEC Santa Clara and Michael Fox, N6MEF, ADEC Santa Clara on their
Mutual Aide Communicator “MAC” Program. The MAC program is an
excellent way for amateurs interested in how to get started using their
radio for emergency communications. For more information on the program

*** VOLUNTEERS NEEDED *** Pacificon is in dire need of volunteers to
staff a number of positions during the event. If you can help for as
little as 2 hours they could use you any of the three days. Please call

We are also looking for operators to assist running both an HF &
UHF/VHF station as part of the JOTA, if you can help operate in any
