= DECEMBER 2012 ARRL SCV SECTION NEWS =

=Holiday Wishes=

I would like to take a chance to thank everyone for a great 2012. From
the Hamfests, Field Day, and Pacificon I have had a great time serving
and meeting everyone here in the section. I am looking forward to 2013
and all the great things we will get to do.

From all of us here in the Santa Clara Valley field organization we
would like to wish you and your families a Happy Holiday season.

=ARES Update=

Our field organization has been working on several projects to improve
our ability to assist our local agencies in a time of need. As a part
of this project we would like to know what responders we have where.
Knowing who our responders are will allow us to build a list by geographic
are and also identify locations that we may not have a presence in.
The information collected will be shared only with section management
(SM, ASM, SEC, ASEC, DEC's).

I would like to request ARES/RACES responders send us an email with their
Callsign, City/Agency, contact number, and certification level.

This information can be sent to ni6c@arrl.org

Your assistance in gathering this list is appreciated. Knowing who our
resources are and where they are able to assist is key to our success.

=ARES and RACES Info=

Emergency communications are key to the successful handling of any
disaster or emergency. As Amateur Operators, we can volunteer our
time and skills to assist. There are numerous online resources you can
utilize to learn more and study to become an ARES or RACES volunteer.
This past month has served as an important reminder for us on just how
important these volunteer organizations are.
