=Section Managers Update=

This has been a great summer! I have heard from numerous members about this
years Field Day and everyone sounds like they had a great time. I was able
to make it out to the NPSARC Field Day in Monterey this year and I know
that several other members of the field organization made visits to several
other clubs as well. Thanks to everyone that participated this year!

You might have seen more activity on our Facebook and twitter feeds in the
recent months. I have asked our ASM James Armstrong, NV6W to assist with
keeping both updated and more active. If you haven't visited either please
take a moment to check them out and either like or follow us!

Also I would like to annouce a change to our section leadership. After
several years of service as SEC, Larry Carr - KE6AGJ has decided to retire
from the position. I want to personally thank Larry for the time and
to our ARES activities. Larry has been fundamental in the growth, organization,

and structure of our ARES team. He will most certainly be missed! Thankfully,
Larry has volunteered to stick around in an Assistant Section Manager
and still remains a resource for our section. Thank you again Larry!

=New EC for Santa Cruz County=

Congratulations to Jerry Inman, AE6I, for accepting the EC assignment in
North Santa Cruz County.

=Public Information Office Update from the PIC=

Suellene Petersen, K6CPA, Public Information Coordinator, was happy to hear
that her PIO Course was introduced at the Centennial and was well received.
For all of the people in the Pacific Division who are interested in taking
the course, please be aware that scheduling talks have begun. At this time,
no time has been established, but stay tuned for more information.

=ARRL Centennial QSO Party=

The ARRL Centennial QSO Party is a year-long operating event
that celebrates hams making contacts. In the end you will have
accumulated points, worked new stations and made new friends
all over the world.

The Centennial QSO Party is made-up of two main activities:
(1) W1AW operating portable in each state and most territories;
and (2) The Centennial Points Challenge which is the accumulation
of points from qualifying contacts made throughout 2014.
To have a score listed online in the Points Challenge competition,
logs must be submitted through the Logbook of the World (LoTW) system.

W1AW will be on the air from every state and most territories,
and it will be easy to work WAS working only W1AW portable
operations. This is the first ARRL-sponsored operating event
where every member is worth at least one point, so work as many
points as you can during 2014! Earn awards based upon points,
working all states or working W1AW portable in every state and
territory. This is an on-the-air event like no other.

Remember working ARRL past and present Elected officials, as well as
HQ employees and many others are worth bonus points. Us Section Managers
for example are worth 175 bonus points!

=PACIFICON 2014 - October 10 - 12=

This year's PACIFICON will take place October 10-12th at the Santa Clara
Marriott Hotel. The Mt. Diablo Amateur Radio Club is this year's host and
they are well underway in getting the preperations made.

Rohan Agrawal is 12 years old and will be presenting
"Smartphones with Ham Radio" at both Pacificon, 2014, and at
RCA Technology Symposium. Both SCCARC and SLVARC will be hosting
Rohan so that he can practice presenting his information before
live Ham audiences. Rohan is a very enterprising young man who has
devised the application that he describes in his presentation.
We applaud the development of our youth as experimenters and communicators
as they strive to bring new technology into use for the Amateur Radio
community's enjoyment.

=ARES and RACES Info=

Emergency communications are key to the successful handling of any
disaster or emergency. As Amateur Operators, we can volunteer our
time and skills to assist. There are numerous online resources you can
utilize to learn more and study to become an ARES or RACES volunteer.
This past month has served as an important reminder for us on just how
important these volunteer organizations are.

Our SCV section is looking for a qualified individual to volunteer
for the position of Section Emergency Coordinator. If you or someone
you know may be interested please feel free to reach out to myself.
