=Winter Has Arrived=

As everyone may have noticed our winter weather has finally
decided to arrive. Across Northern California we are exepriencing
light to moderate rains, and snow in the higher elevations. Let's
hope we get enough rain now to prevent a drought later.

Now is a good time to dust off your go bags and ensure they are
stocked up with the essentials, as well as fresh batteries. I
have been watching our ARES teams message threads and I am happy
to see all of the proactive work being done.

Just another reminder. We aren't quite past this latest band of
storms just yet. This much needed rain will hopefully make a dent
in out current drought situation.

=ARRL Centennial QSO Party=

The ARRL Centennial QSO Party is a year-long operating event
that celebrates hams making contacts. In the end you will have
accumulated points, worked new stations and made new friends
all over the world.

The Centennial QSO Party is made-up of two main activities:
(1) W1AW operating portable in each state and most territories;
and (2) The Centennial Points Challenge which is the accumulation
of points from qualifying contacts made throughout 2014.
To have a score listed online in the Points Challenge competition,
logs must be submitted through the Logbook of the World (LoTW) system.

W1AW will be on the air from every state and most territories,
and it will be easy to work WAS working only W1AW portable
operations. This is the first ARRL-sponsored operating event
where every member is worth at least one point, so work as many
points as you can during 2014! Earn awards based upon points,
working all states or working W1AW portable in every state and
territory. This is an on-the-air event like no other.

Remember working ARRL past and present Elected officials, as well as
HQ employees and many others are worth bonus points. Us Section Managers
for example are worth 175 bonus points!

=FCC Enforcement Presention - Success=

I was able to attend this presentation and I have to say I enjoyed myself.
Thanks to David Hartshorn and Lou Arabanas, NJ6H for putting their time
in to make this even a success. I feel the information Mr. Hartshorn
presented was very good. I also really enjoyed the extended Q&A period
we were able to have. We had a great turn out and thank's also to everyone
that was able to attend.

=ARES and RACES Info=

Emergency communications are key to the successful handling of any
disaster or emergency. As Amateur Operators, we can volunteer our
time and skills to assist. There are numerous online resources you can
utilize to learn more and study to become an ARES or RACES volunteer.
This past month has served as an important reminder for us on just how
important these volunteer organizations are.
