=It's a New Year!=

Welcome everyone to 2013! I'd like to start out by making an open
offer to attend you club meeting or other events this year. Please
contact me if you wish to make arrangements.

As we begin a new year I'd like to challenge everyone to try one new
activity this year. Perhaps you've always wanted to contest, participate
in field day, elmer a new ham, try out a digital mode, or upgrade your
ticket. Maybe you've been meaning to learn code but haven't yet had the
time to dedicate? Or maybe you wish to be a volunteer for the ARRL field
organization? Anything's possible!

Let's make 2013 a year for doing something new with ham radio!

=ARES Update=

Our field organization has been working on several projects to improve
our ability to assist our local agencies in a time of need. As a part
of this project we would like to know what responders we have where.
If you are not a member of a local ARES organization please take a
moment to register with us. We can do our best to get you directed to
your local ARES group. If there isn't one we can work with you in trying
to get one organized.

=ARES and RACES Info=

Emergency communications are key to the successful handling of any
disaster or emergency. As Amateur Operators, we can volunteer our
time and skills to assist. There are numerous online resources you can
utilize to learn more and study to become an ARES or RACES volunteer.
This past month has served as an important reminder for us on just how
important these volunteer organizations are.

What is RACES?

=ARRL Puerto Rico Convention=

My friend and fellow section manager Rene NP3O would like to extend an
open invitation to the Puerto Rico State Convention. The event will be
held on January 26, 2013. This is a great reason to visit sunny
Puerto Rico this upcoming January! More details can be found at the
link below.

=SPAR 2013 Winter Field Day=

The 2013 Winter Field Day will be held from 1700 UTC (12:00 noon EST)
Saturday January 26, 2013 through 1700 UTC (12:00 noon EST) Sunday
January 27, 2013. The object of the event is familiar to most Amateur
Radio operators: set up emergency-style communications and make as many
contacts as possible during the 24 hour period. The rules encourage as
many contacts on as many bands and modes as possible, because during a
real emergency, the most important factor is the ability to communicate,
regardless of band, mode or distance.

=Northern California DX Club=

attend this event!
