=Elmers Wanted!=

Are you interested in lending your years of experience to a new ham?
We have a need here in SCV for some elmers in various parts of the section.
Presently we need elmers in the Los Altos / Los Gatos area. If you are

=15th Annual M2 Open House and BBQ=

M2 Antenna Systems annual open house will be Saturday March 16th beginning
at 8:00AM until 1:00PM. This will take place at M2's Fresno location. Our
very own Bob Vallio, W6RGG will be in attendance. The event also plans to 
have an ARRL VEC licensing session beginning at 9:00AM as well as holding
activities for kids of all ages. This is a great opportunity to meet with 
other Pacific Division ham's as well as say hello to our neighbors in the
San Joaquin Valley Section!

A group of Pacific Division hams are making plans to attend the Dayton
Hamvention. If you are interested in attending but are looking for a 
group or some details on how to get the most out of your trip feel

=Santa Cruz VE Group Educational Studies=

The Santa Cruz VE Group is pleased to offer licensing classes to introduce
people to the art and science of Amateur Radio. The upcoming class will be
for the FCC Technician level license. If you have any friends or family 
members that have been interested in learning more about amateur radio
and getting licensed, this is a great opportunity! The classes started
March 4th and the 13 week course will conclude May 27th. There is no 
charge for the class and those interested should contact

=ARRL Email Forwarder Blocking=

The ARRL IT staff has been notified that Microsoft is blocking e-mail to the
more than 20,000 members who use the e-mail forwarding service to
forward e-mail to Microsoft domains (,, and In addition, the blockage is also affecting those members of the
ARRL's Field Organization and other ARRL volunteers who use an alias
e-mail address to have e-mail delivered to an address with a Microsoft domain.
According to ARRL Information Technology Manager Michael Keane, K1MK, the IT
staff is working to have these blocks lifted and e-mail delivery restored to
normal operation as quickly as possible.


=Radiofest Monterey Bay 2013=

This is one to make sure you have on your calendars! The 2013 Monterey
Bay Radiofest will be back at the Moose Lodge in Del Rey Oaks. The event
takes place on March 23rd and begins at 8:00 AM. This years event calendar
includes ham radio demos, license exams, swapmeet, vendor booths, speakers, 
and a raffle.

=Northern California DX Club=

The 64th International DX Convention, April 19-21, 2013 will be
held in Visalia, CA. This year's convention is held by our very own
Northern California DX Club. Mark your calendars and plan to 
attend this event!

=Sea Otter Classic 2013=

San Benito County ARES is looking for ARES/ACS/RACES volunteers to assist
with communication support for the 23rd Sea Otter Classic. This is the
largest cycling event in North America with over 10,000 athletes and 50,000
spectators. SBC ARES provides communication support in the Ford Ord Monument
area for cross country mountain bike events and for the Gran Fondo Carmel
Valley route which is a century (100 mi) ride around the Carmel Valley route.
Both these areas have little or no cellular or repeater coverage. The
communication challenges are huge. We are looking for amateur radio operators
with a professional attitude who are comfortable using ham radios in the field
and flexible to assist in commercial radio operations as well. Communication
support is needed Friday afternoon April 19th, Saturday April 20th day and
evening, and all day Sunday April 21st. Please contact the communication

The Sunnyvale VEC ARC will be holding one licensing session during the
month of March: Mar. 9 in Sunnyvale, Exam session at 10:30 AM at City
of Sunnyvale "De Anza Park". The next session is Mar. 16 in Redwood City, 
Exam session at 10:30 AM at the Redwood City Library. For more information

The Silicon Valley Volunteer Examiner group holds license examination
sessions the first and third Saturday of every month. Exams are held at 
the Saratoga Firehouse beginning at 8am, 14380 Saratoga Avenue, in downtown 
Saratoga. The firehouse is at the intersection of Saratoga-Sunnyvale Road 
and Saratoga Avenue. Enter through the front door. For more information

The San Benito ARES VE group is running an Amateur Radio License Testing
session at RadioFest in Monterey on March 23 from 1400-1630. All classes
of testing offered. Cost is $14 (cash please). Bring an official ID and 
your Social Security number or FRN. Please email with

PAARA's meeting location has moved from the Menlo Park Rec Center
to the Cubberley Community Center in Palo Alto. The next meeting will
be April 5th. You can visit for more details.

FARS meetings are held at Covington School, 205 Covington Road, Los Altos.
The next membership meeting will be held on Friday March 22nd. You

LPARC club meetings are normally held the first Thursday of each month at 
CAL FIRE's Burrell Forest Fire Station (25050 Highland Way). Meetings 
start at 7:00 PM and usually last about an hour. You ca visit for more details.

SCCARA club meetings are held the second Monday of each month at 7:30PM.
The meeting location is the Kaiser in Santa Clara located at:

SBARA meets the 2nd Friday of every month except sometimes June and December.

San Benito Co. ARES/ACS/RACES meetings are held the second Wednesday of each
month at 7:00PM. The meeting location will be posted at

WVARA will hold their next club meeting on Wednesday March 13th. They meet 
at 7:00 PM at the Silicon Valley Chapter of American Red Cross, at

=ARES and RACES Info=

Emergency communications are key to the successful handling of any 
disaster or emergency. As Amateur Operators, we can volunteer our
time and skills to assist. There are numerous online resources you can
utilize to learn more and study to become an ARES or RACES volunteer.
This past month has served as an important reminder for us on just how
important these volunteer organizations are.
